Fort Mill’s Jacob Nally got his 100th career win Thursday night pinning his Blythewood opponent in the second period.

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets wrestling team rolled over both Blythewood and Clover to improve to 3-0 in Region 3-5A cruising to wins Thursday night.

The No. 4 ranked Fort Mill beat Blythewood 57-12 and then rolled through Clover 61-13 improving to 18-2 overall on the season.

“Our guys wrestled well,” said Fort Mill head wrestling coach Adam Marullo. “Three region wins in two days. Blythewood and Clover are tough teams.”

The tri-match was the first athletic event back at Fort Mill High School in the newly refurbished auxiliary gym. The main gym is yet to be completed.

Fort Mill opened their first match with Blythewood starting at 175-pounds with a second period fall from Theodore Ernst to take the early 6-0 lead.

The Bengals bounced back with a 7-4 decision at 190-pounds getting the win in the closing seconds of the match.

Fort Mill picked up a 6-3 decision at 215-pounds from Joseph Richardson. Blythewood came back with a 4-0 decision at heavyweight to keep the match close at 9-6.

Going back to the lower weights, the Jackets caught fire. Fort Mill got pins from Luke Van Beynum (106) and Jacob Nally (113). For Nally, it was his 100th career varsity win. The Jackets then went into another gear getting five consecutive pins to go up 51-6. Getting wins in the run were Lincoln Greene (120), Tucker Gibson (126), Logan Shope (132), Aidan Eubanks (138), and Gavin Mitcheson (144).

Blythewood would win two of the next three weight classes with Jack Kadish (165) finishing things off in the dual winning by forfeit.

Against Clover, Fort Mill started off strong winning the first eight matches, seven of them by pin to open 48-0.

The dual started at 190-pounds with Sebastian Villatoro winning by injury default to put Fort Mill up 6-0. His win was followed by pins from Richardson (215), Grayson Sykes (hwt.), Van Beynum, Nally, Greene, Gibson, and Shope.

Clover picked up a win at 138-pounds, but then Fort Mill bounced back at 144-pounds with a 16-5 major decision by Eubanks pushing the score to 52-3.

The Jackets dropped a match at 150-pounds by major decision, but then bounced back with Broden Mitcheson (157) getting a 3-2 decision. Kadish finished off the night with a first period pin to close things out for the Jackets.

Fort Mill is scheduled to wrestle an individual tournament in Johnson City, Tenn. on Saturday. Their next dual is against Rock Hill at home in the auxiliary gym at Fort Mill High on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

The Nation Ford Falcons wrestling team won one of three matches in a quad-match at Rock Hill High School. The Falcons beat Spring Valley 51-24 to pick up a Region 3-5A win, but fell to Rock Hill 46-22 and fell to Chester 39-20. Nation Ford is now 

The Catawba Ridge girls’ basketball team lost to the No. 1 ranked 4A girls’ team South Pointe 87-36 to fall in their Region 3-4A opener. The loss drops them to 2-14 on the season and 0-1 in the region.

The Catawba Ridge boys’ basketball team beat South Pointe 65-46 to open their region schedule. Zyan Hager had 24 points to lead the Copperheads, which improved to 14-2 overall on the season and 1-0 in the region. Landon Foley had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
