Golf ball on a tee

ROCK HILL – The Catawba Ridge girls’ golf team won a strangely contested match at Waterford Golf Club Thursday over Northwestern and Nation Ford.

The three teams played just seven holes instead of the normal nine-hole match and was forced to stop because of darkness. The teams didn’t start until 6 p.m. instead of the normal 4 p.m. tee times, due to other golfers in front of them playing league matches at the club.

Catawba Ridge shot a 125 with Ella Rose Hill leading with a 29. Brooke Mehlhouse had a 30 and Reagan Lynch had a 31 for the Copperheads. Jordan Lyons finished the scoring for Catawba Ridge with a 35. Catawba Ridge improved to 4-0 on the season with the win.

Nation Ford shot a 170 and was led by a 36 from Sara McCaskill. Ava Doan shot a 44 and both Brooke Parker and Mary Kate Quinlan shot rounds of 45. The Falcons dropped to 1-4 on the season as Northwestern finished second shooting a 160 as a team.
