Nation Ford’s Ava Baldino returns a ball during her match Wednesday at Catawba Ridge.

After getting rained out earlier in the season, Nation Ford and Catawba Ridge girls’ tennis teams finally met Wednesday and didn’t disappoint.

The highly contested match ended up going to a second doubles tiebreaker with Nation Ford getting a 4-3 win over Catawba Ridge.

Nation Ford’s No. 1 singles Ava Baldino and No. 2 singles Ansley McDonald teamed up to win their No. 1 doubles match over Catawba Ridge’s No. 1 singles Gracyn Root and No. 2 singles Gianna Toscano 6-3, 6-3 to give the Falcons the win.

Nation Ford improved to 6-1 in Region 3-5A and 6-2 overall on the season. The loss dropped Catawba Ridge to 3-4 in the region and 3-5 overall.

Baldino and Root also met in No. 1 singles competition with Baldino winning 6-0, 6-1; as did McDonald and Toscano at No. 2 singles with McDonald winning 6-3, 6-2.

Catawba Ridge’s Skylar White got the win at No. 3 singles over Piper Land for Nation Ford in three sets with a 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 win. It was the only three set match in the contest between the two schools.

The two schools split No. 4 and No. 5 singles as Eva Mabey won at No. 4 singles for Nation Ford with a score of 6-3, 6-0 over the Copperheads’ Katelyn Evans. Catawba Ridge’s Abby Russell won at No. 5 singles for the Copperheads with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Nation Ford’s Reagan Newman.

Catawba Ridge tied the match at three with the No. 2 doubles team of Jane Rohrmeier and Meredith Reynolds beating Nation Ford’s Ella McCullough and Caylee Black 6-2, 6-4.

The Nation Ford girls’ golf team beat Rock Hill 219-243 at Rock Hill Country Club to improve to 6-6 on the season. Nation Ford was led by a pair of 52s from Katie Griggs and Carolyn Miller. Layla Wilson shot a 55 for the Lady Falcons and Reese Jeskey shot a 60 to round out the scoring for Nation Ford.

Late Tuesday, Fort Mill girls’ golf fell to Clover 207-219. They were led by a 50 from Campbell Grant. Lilly Sandowski shot a 53 and Caroline Jones shot a 55. Lucy Anderson finished her round with a 59 for Fort Mill. The Jackets are now 5-2 on the season.
