ROCK HILL – The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets won both the boys’ and girls’ swim titles at the Region 3-5A meet Saturday at the Rock Hill Aquatics Center.
The Fort Mill girls’ and boys’ team scored 430 points each to overtake Nation Ford, who finished second in both the boys’ and girls’ rankings. Catawba Ridge girls and boys each finished fourth. Nation Ford girls scored 319 points and the boys scored 321 points. Catawba Ridge girls scored 149 points and the boys’ team scored 140 points.
The three local swims teams were so strong in the region meet that the only winners of the 22 events came from the three local schools. Fort Mill and Nation Ford each won seven individual events. Catawba Ridge won two events. Fort Mill and Nation Ford split the six relay events.
Individual winners for Fort Mill were:
Turner Wiand – boys’ 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke
Dominic Impens – boys’ 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke
Adrian Paredes – boys’ 200-yard individual medley
Ava Corbi – girls’ 100-yard freestyle
Lila Hadley – girls’ 100-yard breaststroke
Individual winners for Nation Ford were:
Avery Martin – girls’ 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle
Gavin Charcalla – boys’ 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle
Belle Kolatis – girls’ 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly
Gray Reiger – boys’ 100-yard butterfly
Individual winners for Catawba Ridge were:
Amelia Meehan – girls’ 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke
The 5A Division II state swim meet will be held in two weeks with the boys’ meeting being held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 and the girls’ meet being held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. Both meets are at the USC Natatorium in Columbia.
