Catawba Ridge’s Reagan Lynch led the Copperheads to a second-place finish at the Upper State tournament.

CHESTER – All three local high school girls golf teams will be fighting for a state championship next week.

Catawba Ridge, Nation Ford, and Fort Mill all qualified for the 5A Division II state tournament next week in Easley with their scores from Monday’s Upper State championship at Chester Golf Club. The Upper State tournament was played over 18-holes and was a par 72 tournament. Only one golfer shot even par as TL Hanna’s Sierra Schulze was medalist with a 72 (35-37).

TL Hanna won the event with a 308, setting a school record by five strokes. Catawba Ridge was second with a 340 followed by Eastside at 346 and Easley and Indian Land tied for fourth at 352. Fort Mill finished sixth at 360 and Nation Ford was seventh at 369.

The top eight teams in the Upper State tournament qualified for the state tournament next week at Smithfields Golf Club. Smithfields plays 5,054-yards from the ladies’ tees and was built in 1984 by William Lewis.

Leading the way for Catawba Ridge was a 78 (38-40) from Reagan Lynch, who finished fifth overall. Brooke Mehlhouse shot an 86 (40-46) for the Copperheads and both Ella Rose Hill and Jordan Lyons shot rounds of 88 (44-44) with identical scores.

Fort Mill was led by Claire Collins, who shot an 85 (39-46), and finished 13th overall. Sam Benton and Lauren Venino shot rounds of 88. Benton was consistent with scores of 44 on the front and back, while Venino shot 43 and 45. Ava Starosky and Olivia Seifert finished out the scoring for Fort Mill with identical scores of 99 (48-51).

Nation Ford was led by Piper Sabino with an 82 (43-39) for seventh place. Sara McCaskill shot an 87 (40-47) and Katie Griggs fired a 90 (47-43). Mary Kate Quinlan finished the scoring for the Falcons with a 110 (55-55).

The state tournament next week is scheduled to feature 16 teams, eight from the Upper and eight from the Lower state and will be played over two days on Oct. 28 and 29.
