Nation Ford’s Ansley McDonald returns a shot during her match Tuesday against Legion Collegiate.

The Nation Ford Falcons girls’ tennis team got an easy win against Legion Collegiate Academy in one of their last tune-ups before the start of playoffs next week.

Nation Ford has one more match this week against Northwestern to close out the regular season as the playoffs start Thursday, Oct. 19.

The Falcons won 5-1 over Legion Collegiate Tuesday at home as they improved to 9-6 overall on the season.

Winning for Nation Ford against Legion was Ava Baldino in No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2 and Ansley McDonald in No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-1. Also winning in singles play for the Falcons was Reagan Newman at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-2 and Annie Reagan 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Ella McCullough and Carly Jacobson teamed at No. 2 doubles to win 6-1, 6-1 for Nation Ford.

Nation Ford finished third in Region 3-5A with a 6-4 record and will host a home match next week to open the 5A playoffs. Five teams from the region will be selected for a spot in the playoffs. The fourth and fifth seeds out of the region will be on the road.

The Falcons will play at Northwestern next on Thursday, Oct. 12 to end their regular season.

The Fort Mill girls’ tennis team had their final tune up before the playoffs beating Northwestern 6-0 to improve to 9-6 overall on the season.  The team finished their Region 3-5A schedule at 5-5. Fort Mill dropped just three games against Northwestern Tuesday. Winning for the Jackets was Emily Rimmer 6-0, 6-2; Esme Bromham 6-0, 6-0; Kate Hill 6-0, 6-0; Reagan Adams 6-0, 6-0; Hannah Swainey 6-1, 6-0 and in doubles Kendall McCarty and Abhi Nallareddy 6-0, 6-0.

The Fort Mill girls’ volleyball team beat Clover 3-2 (25-9, 21-25, 25-23, 25-27, 15-6) at home to improve to 15-6 overall and 5-4 in Region 3-5A.

The Nation Ford girls’ volleyball team swept Spring Valley 3-0 on the road to improve to 20-8 overall this season and 7-2 in Region 3-5A. Their last regular season dual match is at home Wednesday against rivals Fort Mill.
