High School Baseball in Fort Mill

The Fort Mill High School baseball team has been recognized for an Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association.

The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) is proud to recognize the over 800-member college and high school programs from across the country that have been awarded the 2023-24 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award.

Nearly 350 high school programs and more than 470 collegiate programs were recognized with this year’s award. Fort Mill is one of only four high schools in the state to make the list along with Easley, Landrum, and West-Oak.

Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year’s award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the cumulative 2023-24 academic year.

To be honored, teams had to meet the following criteria – must be a high school or college team, head coach must be a current ABCA member and the team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale for the 2023-24 academic year.

Fort Mill had an unweighted team GPA of 3.43 and a weighted GPA of 4.11. Graduated senior Thomas Ealey led the team’s GPA with a 4.0 unweighted GPA and a 5.04 weighted GPA. Nate Carmello had a 4.55 weighted GPA and a 3.94 unweighted one and Alex Carreiro had a 4.62 weighted GPA and an unweighted GPA of 3.89.

The ABCA has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. Founded in 1945, the ABCA is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 41 countries.

Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association members have broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association division, high school, youth, and travel.
