Post 43’s Owen Noonan looks to turn a double play against Kannapolis Friday evening.

CONCORD – A wild pitch on top of a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh by Kannapolis Post 115 cost Fort Mill Post 43.

Post 43 was down to their final strike a couple of times in the bottom of the seventh as Kannapolis would get the 3-2 win off three hits and an error. Fort Mill fell to 8-3 overall on the season with the loss.

Post 43 opened the top half of the inning by scoring a run on two hits. Owen Noonan led the game off with a single. Simon Fernandez would sacrifice Jonathan Barschow in to give Fort Mill a 1-0 lead.

Aiden Cattarin and Logan Sulli both singled to start the second inning for Post 43, but were left stranded to end their portion of the inning.

Post 43 added a run in the third inning. Barschow started the inning off with a double and scored on a single by Hunter Busque.

Fort Mill continued to put runners on base getting hits and being patient to walk, but struggled to come up with the big hit with runners on base.

In the bottom of the fifth, Nick Chuttey cost Kannapolis a run gunning out a runner from left field at home for the third out to prevent a threat and keep the shutout in tact for Post 43.

Both Sulli and Brennan Helms would single in the sixth inning, but base running troubles ended the inning early for Fort Mill. Post 43 was 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position for the game, despite getting 13 hits in the game.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kannapolis threatened getting two on with a single and an error. Another single would load the bases with two outs and then Post 115 would tie the game at two with another hit before starter Sam Czyz would be pulled.

He would go six and two third innings allowing two runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out three. Czyz would be responsible for the runners on the corner, and with three pitches into the next batter the game would end on the wild pitch.

Busque went 3-4 with an RBI and Fernandez went 1-4 with an RBI. Sulli got three hits as well and Barschow got two hits.

Post 43 opens a three-game series on the road next week against League IV for Camden on Monday, June 24.
