A one out double by Cooper Zohner in the bottom of the seventh gave Fort Mill Post 43 Seniors a 5-4 win over Richland Post 215 Tuesday evening.
After a scoreless top half of the first, Fort Mill got leadoff hitter Owen Noonan on base due to a Richland error. Simon Fernandez followed with a single. A walk to Jonathan Barschow loaded the bases.
John Dober drove in Noonan on a sacrifice fly and a walk to Logan Sulli again loaded the bases.
Nick Chuttey reached on an error and Anthony Marano drove in Barschow on an RBI single. A walk to Aiden Cattarin scored Sulli and again loaded the bases as Post 43 went up 4-0.
In the bottom of the second, Daniel Durham singled for Fort Mill and Hunter Busque walked, but both would be left stranded.
Post 43 again threatened in the third inning, but couldn’t scratch a run.
Richland had a runner reach in the fourth inning on Post 43’s third error. They did get their first hit of the game later in the inning. Post 215 scored a run on a single later in the inning to get on the scoreboard. A walk would load the bases for Richland with two outs. A passed ball allowed another run for Post 215.
Fort Mill starter River Joye was able to regroup in the fifth inning and get out of the inning allowing only a single. Joye went five innings for Post 43 allowing two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out four.
Nico Bartolotti came in to pitch in the sixth inning. Post 215 got a single and scored on a double play to close the gap against Fort Mill making it 4-3.
Richland tied the game at four in the top of the seventh.
Post 43 got just four hits in the game and made four errors. Zohner, Marano, Cattarin and Simon Fernandez each got hits for Fort Mill.
Fort Mill improved to 16-4 overall and is scheduled to play at Richland Post 215 on Wednesday, July 17.
Juniors game suspended because of weather
The Fort Mill Post 43 Juniors game at Inman Post 45 was suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning as they trailed 6-3 in game two of their best-of-three second round series.
The conclusion of that game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17 at Nation Ford High School with game three of the series to be played after game two if necessary.
