NEWBERRY – With their only game of the week, the Fort Mill Post 43 Senior team made the most of getting work in for their pitching staff.

Post 43 used seven pitchers over nine innings to get a 6-1 win over Chapin Newberry Post 193/24 Tuesday night on the road. Fort Mill improved to 13-3 overall on the season with the win.

Fort Mill was able to dent the scoreboard early scoring in the top of the first with the help of two Chapin Newberry errors.

Chapin Newberry threatened in the second inning, but a key double play for Post 43 got them out of the jam with runners on first and second.

Jackson Mullen walked in the top of the third inning and Hunter Busque got hit by a pitch. Busque then scored on an RBI single from Logan Sulli to give Post 43 their second run of the game.

Post 43 started the top of the fourth with Brennan Helms getting a walk. Helms would get to third and tried to score on a passed ball, but got thrown out at home with the ball bouncing back to the catcher who tossed it to the pitcher covering home.

Fort Mill starter River Joye got two innings of work to open the game. He allowed just one hit without walking any.

Lane Ross came in for Post 43 in the third inning. He would pitch one inning allowing one run.

Liam Quinn toed the rubber for Fort Mill in the fourth inning and got another key double play to end the inning, although he did give up one run on two singles. He also struck out a batter.

Offensively, Fort Mill slowed to a crawl and wasn’t able to produce any runs over the fourth and fifth innings.

Another pitcher came to the mound in the fifth inning for Post 43 in Rayce Buskirk. He would allow one hit in the inning.

In the top of the sixth inning, John Dober got just the second hit of the game for Post 43. He would be left stranded on second to end the half of the inning for Fort Mill.

Mullen pitched the sixth and seventh innings for Post 43 and was about as perfect as you could be throwing 21 consecutive strikes, while striking out three in his two innings of work. He would get the win for Fort Mill.

The bats for Fort Mill woke up in the eighth inning. Jonathan Barschow would reach on a fielder’s choice and Sulli singled. Daniel Durham walked to load the bases. Owen Noonan then drove in Barschow to push the score to 3-1, before Sulli would be thrown out at home also trying to score.

Dober came in to pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning for Fort Mill. Chapin Newberry got a runner on but was unable to get anything across. Dober allowed a hit and struck out two in the inning.

Nico Bartolotti reached on an error and Mullen walked with no outs in the top of the ninth. Barschow walked to load the bases and Sulli walked as well. Barschow scored keeping the bases loaded with Sulli’s walk. Dober broke the game open with a two RBI single scoring Mullen and Barschow to make it 6-1.

Aiden Cattarin came in the ninth inning for Post 43. Cattarin walked the first batter of the ninth, but settled in and struck out one, getting out of the inning to close things out.

At the plate, Sulli and Dober each went 2-4 with two RBIs.

Fort Mill Post 43 is off for the remainer of the week but opens a key three-game series against Rock Hill Post 34 next Monday, July 8 to close out the regular season.
